По умолчанию HLT buys more Telcogames

51 percent stake - corporate release

LONDON, July 27, 2004. Mobile game publisher and distributor Telcogames announced today that existing shareholder HLT (ASX: HLT) has increased it's stake in the company and acquired a 51% shareholding.

Telcogames will use the investment to increase the scope of its operations and fund further global expansion. Establishing a local presence in key territories and increasing the level of account management are key goals for the company.

Telcogames is a publisher, distributor and aggregator of downloadable games for mobile phones. The company was founded in 2003 by Jamie Conyngham and Mark Ollila. Telcogames has a catalogue of over 600 mobile games, which are distributed in over 20 countries around the world.

Dr Mark Ollila, the chief executive officer of Telcogames, said, "The advent of downloadable games for mobile phones has created an entirely new global content market. Telcogames was created to address this new worldwide audience and has worked very hard to establish a presence across a large number of territories and enter many of the key markets which are emerging in this new media. The acquisition by HLT will allow the company to consolidate its presence in many of these territories and enable further expansion as the market continues to grow. It will also ensure that Telcogames can continue to offer the widest and most comprehensive catalogue of content in the world."

Mick Leahy, general manager of HLT said, "Mobile gaming has established itself as a viable new channel for content. Approaching this market on a global level requires an understanding of the wider market, combined with dedicated local presence in each major territory and the ability to offer content which will have broad appeal in each territory. Telcogames has achieved a great deal within it's first year and is now in a position to become a world leader in mobile game distribution as the market continues to grow."

По умолчанию Airborne raises an additional $22 million in VC

financing led by Insight Venture Partners - corporate release

MONTREAL, CANADA and NEW YORK, NY, July 27, 2004 – Airborne Entertainment Inc., today announced a $22 million round of financing led by Insight Venture Partners, with participation from existing and other new investors. This investment will step up expansion of new product lines and services in the mobile entertainment market, support the rollout of international distribution and accelerate strategic acquisitions.

“We are unmatched in the breadth of the mobile entertainment products and services that we can publish over virtually all mobile handsets and technology platforms,” said Garner Bornstein, CEO of Airborne Entertainment. “This financing underscores our vision and success in addressing the needs of Consumer and Business Brands to create new revenue streams and to reach their customers through the mobile channel. It allows us to further our goal of providing a world-class branded mobile media publishing platform at a time when consumption of mobile content is at a growth inflection point.”

According to Strategy Analytics, the North American market for mobile content is growing rapidly with revenues of $1.4 billion in 2004 and expected to reach $14 billion by 2008. To meet this demand, Airborne Entertainment has established distribution agreements with all major mobile operators and has partnered with industry-leading brand properties to deliver a diverse array of mobile entertainment products to consumers. Among others, Airborne has launched products in conjunction with such properties as Maxim Magazine, YM Magazine, the National Hockey League, Fox Filmed Entertainment, the Left Behind book series, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Canadian Idol, The Food Network, Wine Spectator Magazine, A&E and the History Channel.

“Airborne Entertainment has emerged as the clear leader in mobile entertainment products in a market that is growing rapidly,” said Jeff Horing, Managing Director at Insight Venture Partners. “Airborne’s expanding list of mobile operators and properties validates the need of the industry to work with a publisher that provides a complete set of products and services. Our decision to invest in Airborne is based on the long-term value we see in the Company’s business model, creative people and technology.”

This funding represents a significant step toward Airborne’s objective of expanding its strength and solidifying its leadership position within the mobile entertainment industry. Other key recent accomplishments by the company include the roll-out of its international distribution network, substantial expansion of its brand rights library, the launch of its personalization products division (ringtones and phone graphics), and the shoring up of its senior management team including the hiring of Rory Olson (former EVP of BCE Emergis and CEO of Surefire Commerce) as Chief Operating Officer, and Pierre Bernier (former CFO of Yellow Pages Group) as Chief Financial Officer.

По умолчанию Orange picks up In-Fusio's EGE tech for Signature phones

corporate release

Los Angeles and Bordeaux, France - July 28, 2004 - IN-FUSIO, a leading mobile games service provider and publisher in Europe, U.S. and China, today announced that the Orange Group has selected its ExEn Gaming Extensions (EGE) to be a key feature of its Signature phone range, for Java-enabled handsets across Europe.

IN-FUSIO's EGE, which is compatible with all Java handsets, has been chosen by Orange for its ability to provide the most comprehensive service for generating mobile game communities and sustained repeat revenue. IN-FUSIO mobile game service players have an ARPU three times higher than Java only offerings.

While EGE supports Java and BREW platforms it is the focus on service which is winning industry support. By adding end-user and 'managed' functionality EGE ensures that the mobile game experience is fun, addictive and, above all, intuitive.

Orange first adopted IN-FUSIO's ExEn gaming service three years ago and has since built a community of loyal and avid mobile game players. With the addition of IN-FUSIO's EGE, as a device requirement, Orange is ensuring that it continues to succeed as a leading brand for the youth market.

The first Orange handset to ship with EGE is due to be launched in Q1 2005.

Gilles Raymond, co-CEO and President, IN-FUSIO said: "The decision by Orange to adopt ExEn Gaming Extensions for its Java gaming handsets goes beyond a simple decision between technologies. What is at stake today is what operators can offer their customers' communities in the form of value-added services, increased functionality and ease of use and not what type of technology is embedded in handsets."

Julien Billot, Vice President of Marketing for Orange France said: "IN-FUSIO's EGE will introduce exciting games features and powerful players' community management tools. Thanks to our history with IN-FUSIO, we know that this dynamic combination of games and services can deliver revenues over and above other providers. It is for this reason that we partner so closely with IN-FUSIO, and why we want the ExEn Gaming Extensions to be embedded on our Signature phone series."

Florian Seiche, Director of Devices Orange: "Our focus on Orange Signature phone customization is to deliver an easy to use experience, that removes barriers to adoption and increase usage. In the field of mobile gaming, IN FUSIO's EGE fits perfectly with this strategy, combining the benefits of Java standard and full end to end experience definition."

Seiche added: "IN-FUSIO's ExEn Gaming Extension will introduce exciting games features and powerful players' community management tools. Orange is keen to leverage current successes with IN-FUSIO in France, the UK and the Netherlands in order to accelerate the usage of mobile games and enhance the mobile gamer experience."

По умолчанию Sorrent raises $20 million

funding round led by BA Venture Partners - corporate release

SAN MATEO, Calif. – July 29, 2004 – Sorrent, Inc., a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, today announced that it has raised $20 million in Series C financing led by BA Venture Partners. Sorrent’s current investors New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Globespan Capital Partners and Sienna Ventures join BA Ventures in the round. Sharon Wienbar, a director at BA Venture Partners, will join Sorrent’s board of directors. Sorrent, recognized as one of the top publishers in the high growth mobile entertainment market, plans to use the money to expand its global reach and distribution.

“Mobile entertainment is not only one of the fastest growing categories in telecommunications, it is an exploding sector of the more than $20 billion global video game market,” said Wienbar. “Sorrent has executed aggressively against this market opportunity and is well-positioned to become a leading mobile entertainment brand worldwide.”

In the past six months, Sorrent has achieved significant milestones and been recognized for leadership in three key areas:

o Licensing – Sorrent secured the mobile rights to three of Atari's intellectual properties, including the worldwide mobile rights to DRIV3R. The mobile game launched worldwide simultaneously with the console games in late June as part of a global marketing campaign. Sorrent has also recently expanded its successful relationship with FOX Sports Interactive Media and secured two licenses from Viacom, including the new teen brand, everGirl.

o Personnel – Sorrent has made key management hires in the U.S., including new heads of sales, marketing and production.

o Distribution – Sorrent has closed several direct carrier relationships in Asia and Europe and is a premier publisher with all U.S. carriers.

“This round can be seen as a vote of confidence in both Sorrent and the industry from some of the nation’s most sophisticated investors,” said Greg Ballard, president and CEO of Sorrent. “We are now recognized as a leading player in mobile entertainment in the U.S., and this additional financing will allow us to extend that leadership elsewhere in the world.”

По умолчанию Sorrent inks distribution agreement with SK Telecom

corporate release

SAN MATEO, Calif. – July 29, 2004 – Sorrent, Inc., a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, today announced it has signed the first foreign direct distribution deal with SK Telecom, Korea's leading provider of information and telecommunications services. SK Telecom, Korea’s largest wireless carrier with more than 50 percent of the country's market share, will distribute Sorrent’s portfolio of Java mobile entertainment products. Initially, SK Telecom will launchwith four of Sorrent’s most popular sports titles: Yao Ming Basketball ’04 presented by FOX Sports, FOX Sports Track & Field ‘04, FOX Sports Batter Up! and FOX Sports Boxing.

"Through our close partnership with SK Telecom, we can bring U.S. and European mobile games to one of the largest and most sophisticated mobile markets in the world," said Greg Ballard, president and CEO of Sorrent. "SK Telecom is not only leading in Korea but a leading player throughout Asia, and this deal will help us further advance our vision in the Asian market."

Korea is one of the three largest mobile gaming markets, along with the United States and Japan, and is larger than Japan and as large as all of Europe, with 37 million mobile subscribers. Mobile games account for more than 60 percent of Korea’s three major carriers’ mobile content revenue. The size of Korea’s mobile game market has grown 20 to 40 percent a year over the last few years and is expected to grow another 20 to 30 percent this year.

“Our partnership with Sorrent is our first direct relationship with a foreign publisher. Sorrent’s games will be available to SK Telecom’s nearly 18 million subscribers in Korea in Q3 2004.
